YMCA Child Care

A great place for kids... We offer many opportunities for kids at the 'Y'

Our Child Care Program Goals:

  • To provide quality care for children regardless of social/economic background.
  • To help children develop to their fullest potential.
  • To deliver the program in a positive environment of safety, support and care.

After-School Child Care

The YMCA believes the child care program should provide opportunities and experiences which stimulate a child's physical, social, intellectual and emotional development, In order to accomplish this, we provide gym activities, games, arts and crafts, books, healthy snacks and activities with other local agencies, The program meets the developmental needs of particular age groups as well as the individual needs of each child. The curriculum is based on the interests of the child and provides resources which will stimulate growth.

The after school program is licensed by New York State and operates Monday-Friday when school is in session. All after school care begins at school release until 6:00 pm. The Wayland/Cohocton morning school care begins at 6:45 am until school starts at 9:00 am.

  • We offer healthy snacks and a balance between homework/study time and recreational activities.
  • Staff are trained in First Aid and CPR.
  • Staff are trained to meet children's social and emotional needs.
  • Financial Assistance for child care can be obtained through Pro-Action (776-2126) of Steuben County. (Livingston or Ontario County Social Services are also available - Call our Childcare Director for more info on assistance).
  • This program is offered after school in Hornell at the Y and in the Canisteo Elementary School. It is also offered in Wayland/Cohocton Central School as am and pm programs.
  • Hornell Childcare also provides time to swim in our pool.
