Hornell YMCA Programs

In addition to our classes listed below, we have a fully outfitted Fitness Center. All YMCA members and guests grade 9 and up are encouraged to make use of our vast array of strength training equipment as well as our aerobic equipment. We have Nautilus Equipment, Elliptical Trainers, Treadmills, Bikes and Rowers - there's somthing for everybody.

We also have a fully equipped Free Weight Room. All YMCA members and guests grade 7 and up can take advantage of the weights in this room. All students are required to make an appointment with a fitness director before they can use the equipment in this room.

The fitness center is also home to our Cardiac Rehab Program. This program is specially designed for recovering heart attack members that have 'graduated' from St. James Hospital patient program.

Get Aerobically Healthy at the YMCA!

Step Aerobics - is a class for both men and women, beginners or the conditioned athletes. It's a complete aerobic program that combines music and fun with high intensity and low impact. The YMCA supplies the STEPS; you supply the energy and fun. Certified instructor Peg Jimerson leads the way as you step it up.

Kickboxing Aerobics - An excellent 3 days/week evening workout featuring choreographed routines set to music. Katherine Berry is our instructor.

Pilates - A challenging 2 days/week evening floor centered exercise program focusing on core strengthening exercises. Christine Locker is our instructor.

Country Line Dancing - This popular 'drop-in' class is for both the experienced and the inexperienced. Dixie Brundage is our instructor.  Runs during school calendar days.

Silver Sneakers - Something for our seniors - chair based exercises using fitness bands, balls and weights to increase strength, flexibility and balance. The program is sponsored by Preferred Care Gold. Jill Giese/Jeanne Hapeman are our instructors.

Get Fit - During the13 week program, our staff will help you meet your goals by tracking diet and exercise on our Get Fit computer. A registered dietitian is available for nutrition information.

Yoga - In this complete beginner series, participants will learn over a dozen yoga poses, practice yoga breathing for relaxation, stress release and energy.  Build strength, Flexibility, balance and self-esteem while reducing stress.  This class is taught in Kripalu Yoga style, which is friendly and accessible to all fitness levesl, body types and ages. 

Running/Walking Club - Do you love to run/walk, but would like some company to keep you moving?  Would you like to transition from walking to running?  Starting May 5th the YMCA will have a running/walking club that can help with both of those needs and give you so many more benefits.  Call the Y for more information.

Recreational Volleyball - Join us at the Y, starting march 17th, every Monday 7:15-8:30 pm for non-competitive games of volleyball.  All the excitement of volleyball without the worry of "Am I good enough?"  Come have so much fun you won't even realize your're exercising.  Open to anyone 18 and over (pro's need not come).  Free for members, $4 per session for non-members.

 

New Programs

Lunch Crunch Dance Aerobics - This class will combine the basics of dance and aerobics to meet your fitness needs! The class will include jazz, hip hop & aerobics swirled together to make up fun dance routines.

Pre-Post - Natal water exercise: Whether you are expecting a baby or have already given birth to a new little bundle of joy, our Pre/Post Natal aquatic class will help you prepare for the physiological changes of labor, delivery and postpartum recovery. These exercises follow the current guidleines of the American Council of Obstetrics and Gynecology and are designed to help promote strength and increase your energy!

Locker Room Policy

Adult member locker rooms are available to adult members and youth members grade 9 and above. Program members, youth members grade 8 and below, general public and birthday parties must use the general/youth public locker rooms. Lockers are available free on a day use basis. If you would prefer to keep items here longer, locker rentals are available for $35.00/year. Please see the front desk.

Insurance

The YMCA strongly recommends that all members carry their own health insurance in case of accidental injury. We are not responsible for any claims caused by participation.
