Hornell YMCA ProgramsIn addition to our classes listed below, we have a fully outfitted Fitness Center. All YMCA members and guests grade 9 and up are encouraged to make use of our vast array of strength training equipment as well as our aerobic equipment. We have Nautilus Equipment, Elliptical Trainers, Treadmills, Bikes and Rowers - there's somthing for everybody. We also have a fully equipped Free Weight Room. All YMCA members and guests grade 7 and up can take advantage of the weights in this room. All students are required to make an appointment with a fitness director before they can use the equipment in this room. The fitness center is also home to our Cardiac Rehab Program. This program is specially designed for recovering heart attack members that have 'graduated' from St. James Hospital patient program. You want to exercise, lose weight, build muscle, and improve your health, but you need support, motivation, and encouragement to fit exercise into your weekly routine. Personal Training could be the answer for you. Fitness staff is available for fitness evaluations and instruction. We will design workouts to help you reach your fitness goals and you get one-on-one personal attention during your scheduled training appointment. We use a variety of activities and exercises to keep you entertained and motivated. We can also offer you an array of methods to track the results of your hard work. Get Aerobically Healthy at the YMCA!Kickboxing Aerobics - An excellent 3 days/week evening workout featuring choreographed routines set to music. Katherine Berry is our instructor. Pilates - A challenging 2 days a week evenings at 5:00-6:00pm floor centered exercise program focusing on core strengthening exercises. Christine Locker is our instructor. Pilates in Canisteo - 2 days a week at 5:00-6:00pm, classes are held at the elementary school in Canisteo. Maggie Place is our instructor. Country Line Dancing - This popular 'drop-in' class is for both the experienced and the inexperienced. Dixie Brundage is our instructor. Runs during school calendar days. Dixie Brundage is our instructor. (2 classes are held, one for experienced and one for beginners.) Silver Sneakers - Something for our seniors - chair based exercises using fitness bands, balls and weights to increase strength, flexibility and balance. The program is sponsored by Preferred Care Gold. Jen Caba is our instructor. Running/Walking Club - Do you love to run/walk, but would like some company to keep you moving? Would you like to transition from walking to running? Starting May 5th the YMCA will have a running/walking club that can help with both of those needs and give you so many more benefits. Call the Y for more information. Karate: For boys and girls ages 4 and up thru adults. The students will learn a bosic understanding in application of blocking, striking and kicking techniques. The classes will be fun and educational. Thursdays 7:15 - 8:00 11yrs & up Fridays 5:00 - 5:45 10 & under Saturday 10:00am - 12:00 all students. Sensei Don Bracci will instruct the class. Adult Self Defense Class: For anyone 16 years old and up. The class will be taught by Karate black belt instructor Don Bracci on Friday Evenings. Consist of basic defense techniques for chokes, grabs and ground work. Students will learn how to defend themselves in the event of a personal attack. Fridays 6:00 to 7:00pm Zumba: A mix of Latin and International dance and music that creates an exciting enviroment for an effective workout! This class combines easy to follow dance steps with body sculpting movements The full body workout utilizes the principles of interval & resistance training. Beginners and intermediate level. Monday & Wednesdays 5:15-6:15pm Instructor: Barb Jones Yoga Gold: Balance and range of motion. This class will include strengthening of the body to improve posture, flexibility,. This relaxing program offers slow stretching instruction of proper breathing and relaxation techniques. Great for active older adults. Tuesday and Thursdays 8:00 to 9:00am Instructor: Lisa Sexsmith. Yoga: Yoga Fit certified instructor will begin with Foundations, a gentler, slower paced practice easing muscles into a greater range of motion. More time is spent in each pose refining proper alignment, awareness and breath. Class will progress into mixed level vinyasa which is appropriate for all experience levels. Locker Room PolicyAdult member locker rooms are available to adult members and youth members grade 9 and above. Program members, youth members grade 8 and below, general public and birthday parties must use the general/youth public locker rooms. Lockers are available free on a day use basis. If you would prefer to keep items here longer, locker rentals are available for $35.00/year. Please see the front desk.
